How do we find out God’s Will

stocksnap_jiieavjspw

Finding God’s will takes a unique individual effort by having a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus. It is through Jesus and His Kingdom we can find our unique purpose in Him and for His glory and while this seems a simple solution it does take a lot of hard work which can be extremely painful. The reasons it can be painful are:
Self-Will
Lack of knowledge
Wrong influences
Once you deal with the above you are ready to get into a place to hear, receive and start finding out what God’s will for your life is. Always remember that it will be about Him and that doesn’t mean being a worship leader or an usher but an actual lifestyle in God. Below are three keys to finding out what God’s will is:
Worship God
Read His Word
Find out your identity
Many believers think that they should choose their path, and God will bless it, but this goes against everything the scripture teaches us. Proverbs instructs that God will direct our paths if we acknowledge Him. How can we acknowledge God?
Putting Him first in everything
Praising Him through the rough and smooth
Obedience in everything He requires
The Bible says, seek, and you will find, and that’s all God desires from His creation. A generation of seekers!

What is God’s Will

road-nature-lines-country

Many people ask me what God’s will is and they find themselves confused about what God wants for them in their lives. We need to break it down to the basics and go to scripture and apply what Jesus wants us to be. If you want to understand God’s will please read the words of Jesus and below in three points I identify what He desires from us:
Become God’s children
Become Disciples
Become Disciple Makers
It is easy to limit the three points to Church or Christian activities, and that certainly wouldn’t be God’s will for your life because God’s will is centred in His Kingdom. Whatever you are meant to do in your life whether career, student, family or ministry you are called to be His child, disciple and disciple-maker and this should never change. Within this, we have a unique identity which propels us to into having a vision and purpose for our lives which are fruits of the three points mentioned.
The next three points highlight how you can tell if you are in God’s will:
Living in the Supernatural
Living for God and His purpose
Living in obedience to His Word
These points are difficult to execute on a regular basis, but they are the benchmarks for God’s will in your life.

Why do you say “God Bless you” – It’s not Biblical!

trees-358418_1280

God bless you, GBU, and G-D bless you are the frequent texts/messages you will get today, and you will get the verbal version if you are going to a Church or prayer meeting. I have been a Christian for 15 years and was brought up in the faith believing that saying those three words was the ‘right’, ‘holy’, ‘proper’ thing to do. Well, that was until I read my Bible for what it is. I feel defrauded if I am honest because through prayer, seeking God and study I have discovered that saying those three words are traditional or cultural rather than spiritual. God has nothing to do with it.
You probably think I am crazy and fair enough if you do but I spent time on this, and I want to educate those who are willing to ‘hear’ so below I list out my findings in a spiritual order. Firstly I look at God’s Word and how Jesus and the Apostles spoke; Then I look at the spiritual implications of saying those three words; Finally, I will touch on the history of those three words.
What does God’s Word say? Looking at the words of Jesus, especially before His accession to the right hand of God He was more concerned about letting His disciples know about the coming of the HolyGhost; Poor disciples never got a God bless you from Jesus! Apostle Paul was the major contributor to the New Testament, and he always ended his letters very specifically by requesting that the grace of God be with the Churches he wrote to. Very different to saying, God Bless You. Peter and John were focused on ‘Saluting’ the recipients of the letters they wrote, and again, the emphasis was, peace and grace to be upon those who were reading (The Churches they planted). There is also the issue of the term, “GodSpeed” which is found in 2 John but the meaning of the scripture is critical. The explanation is that if there is someone who brings an alternate gospel to the one Jesus preaches then do not wish them a good or safe journey. You can’t find the term God Bless You in the Bible. We say it, day in day out. There are implications.
Every word that proceeds from our mouths are a seed sown, either a seed of life or death and according to Psalm 17:2 God desires our sentences to be formed in His presence. There are spiritual implications to the words we use in a positive and adverse way, therefore, my question is who gave us the authority to proclaim blessing on each other? Why are we speaking with such authority when it isn’t ours to have? It is God who decides where and who the blessing goes after all the scripture says His mercy falls upon whom He chooses. In 15 years of Christian living, I have seen God not bless me, but people insist on saying it to me (I am situation specific) and the conclusion is that the things that I was not blessed with were never in His will or the season expired. I have been guilty of speaking those three words for many years myself, and then I realised that how can I bless someone if God doesn’t even want that? Paul wrote at the end of his letter to the Church at Ephesus, “Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen”. I mean WOW! How many people have you blessed and you don’t even know if they sincerely love Jesus? Many Christians are exactly that according to Paul and Jesus.
You want to know about history I guess? I wouldn’t be too bothered at this point but some say the Romans first came up with it in regards to their pagan gods and others say it’s an English traditional saying that came about during the plague. You would say it if someone sneezes as they were about to die. So next time you want to say the words God Bless you what are you causing to happen in the spiritual realm? You don’t know God’s will for everyone’s life. Neither do I.
Let’s get back to the truth and not this Church tradition which breaks us down and causes us to sin. Jesus help us.

False suffering – Exposing the Church of the World

wolf-1341881_1280

Jesus foretold that suffering would happen to His followers and that the Church would need to endure a time of tribulation while on earth. Today suffering has lost its original biblical context and has been severely downgraded by the Church in the world today. Genuine suffering seems to be a problem in areas of the world where Christianity is less acceptable whereas in the ‘free’ areas of the world there is little or no suffering even though the claims are different.

The problem with the Church in the world is that it cannot withstand judgement spoken upon it and in return, it claims to be persecuted through suffering. Who are we to speak judgement? Well, the apostles often wrote to the churches to get their act together so why change now? As a believer, you have every right to highlight the problems of a church as long as you are doing it with the right motivation. The spirit behind everything you say counts. Are you speaking out of pride or concern? Out of being correct or conviction? Every time you make a decision in your life, you are making a judgment. This doesn’t give free reign to hurt, angry Christians to go on the attack, for God will judge all our hearts.

The Church responds from the pulpit, and it is the platform that is used to destroy God’s Kingdom work because accusations bring wrath and wrath is only appointed for Satan and his children. The duty of the Church is to deal with their issues so they can teach and house broken people but instead there is a cry that things are working against them. This, my friends, is not suffering for Christ but it is guilt and the fruits of it. I do understand that there are some terrible people on blogs calling out churches and leaders with the wrong attitude, but there are those who tell the Church exactly what the Bible says; And they don’t like it.

Here is a list of things that Churches feel they are being attacked about:

Doctrine

Leadership structure

Leadership style

Money

Church member figures

None of the above relates to the Faith directly, and that is how you know the difference between a Church which is genuinely being persecuted or crying wolf; Their faith and their works are boasted, but if the works aren’t miraculous then there is no true suffering involved. True suffering is a result of the miraculous happening in your life and Church. No miracles, no Jesus, no Jesus no suffering.

Take a firm look at your Church and line it up with the Bible. There is no perfect Church, but there has to be a Church which is fully invested in God’s will and Spirit.

Self Pity – Exposing the Church of the World

black-and-white-woman-girl-sitting

Broken leaders are far many today, and I recently told a friend that if you are a leader then expect to be broken and that isn’t always for good reasons. We do have a great comfort from being broken as leaders because whatever has been planned for evil, God will work for His plan and glory. Personally the more broken I have become, the more I have relied on Jesus and the stronger I have become in return. However once broken a state of self-pity does consume a leader, and that self-pity becomes a spirit which spreads like wildfire throughout churches and relationships. Two things happen next, and they are either healing or destruction. Let’s look at both areas below.
Destruction – This is what usually happens, unfortunately, and with self-pity, there seems to be two types of destruction which centre around infecting the leadership an causing them to compromise or the leadership infecting their congregation through their compromises. Self-pity tells you that you are owed something or that everything is always working against you, especially people, and this mindset removes Jesus, His blood and His victory from our lives and eventually gives the devil full reign over our lives. Living as a Christian is already a battle, but when we start adding to our plight with self-pity, we start to lose the battle. What are the fruits of this mindset? Leaders wiping out other leaders from the platform and tearing down of gifting and identities. Such a shame but it’s the truth.
Healing – Healing rarely happens today especially in mainstream circles, and there are many reasons for it. It is easy to focus on physical healing, but emotional healing is just as important because a sound mind is needed to live out the fullness of Christ through our bodies. What healing does is that it allows us to see God clearly for His will, purpose and plan and a lack of it keeps us blind and then we essentially end up leading the blind. If I could sum up Church today, that is precisely what I would say, ‘The blind leading the blind’.
There was a pastor who asked me for help as a consultant for his church and he asked me how he could make his church grow in numbers. I did attend the church, and it was quite a depressive atmosphere. My point being that the Church needs to deal with the spirits housed within its system before they can expect anything else from God. The Church is constantly under attack, but the problems are deepened by their own failings.  It’s time to get back into a place of obedience and abandon current and past traditions.
How did God see His Church and how does He see it now? Ask Him the question. Church isn’t about me and you, it is about Jesus and His coming.
