The best psychologists can be found in Church leadership, and that is because they understand the power of emotion combined with the power of God’s Word. For many generations, elite non-believers have used God’s Word as a tool to control the earthly population, and it seems that in recent history Church leaders have understood the same psychology. God was very right when He spoke in His Word about the battle between His creation and Satan being in the mind for that is the location where there is either victory or loss.
The art of manipulation within Churches can be found through teachings on giving (primarily cash) and leadership positions which seem innocent on the face of it and in fact I would say that most leaders wouldn’t realise the corruption within such beliefs. The majority of leaders I have encountered and witnessed are innocent on the issues of leadership and giving, but the deeper they get into their positions, the more reliant they become on those two factors. Today’s Church needs tithings and followers in leadership positions to succeed and appear good, and the need for the HolySpirit is now secondary. Let’s look at the gift of giving and leadership in focus.
Giving – Mainstream Christian TV demand instant cash and they use scripture to insinuate that through the giving of finance God will reward and recompense with a greater blessing. I can see why they would say this but looking at God and His Word for who He is, this is far from the truth. The Church in the world needs extreme, continuous finance to fund their traditional events and outreaches which ultimately makes them look good but cripples the congregation. Get rich or try dying. God may not have called many to be rich, but he definitely didn’t call his believers to behave with a poverty spirit. If you are busy giving your money away then who will feed the poor and needy? Before you know, that is exactly what the Church of the world will make you.
Leadership – Some leaders end up in the same positions for 25 years because they seem to be loyal, others are in the position because they don’t want to let go and then there are those who are made to leave early because they do not fit the profile. Great leaders create more great leaders and are never threatened by the newcomers, but the poor leaders are the ones who are adamant that the newcomers or younger generation need to work their way up their ladder in one specific church or organisation. Church tradition requires leaders and their congregation to remain in that same place, and there is no valid scripture to prove or back this up. Staying in the same position brings a false unity and stability which from the outward makes everything look very pretty.
Church isn’t meant to be like this, but today the spirit housed within it cripples leaders and the work of God through the power of manipulation. As a body of believers, we have significant work to do to eradicate this behaviour before Jesus comes back. We have the authority to serve in power, and we must take this responsibility seriously with the fear of God within us. It’s time to give Church the credit God wants it to have.
Leaders, time to change the way you are and get back to the way God is. Purity.

Jesus was quoting the Old Testament when speaking to the disciples about the “shepherd being struck” so the sheep would scatter and He referred the scripture (Matthew/Zachariah) to himself and the believers. I have read many articles and heard many sermons using this scripture out of context to suit agendas, and it’s time to put the record straight.
Church leaders believe that it is an enemy attack that causes sheep to scatter from their pews, but it is God himself who does it. The scripture in context is God himself striking The Shepherd (Jesus), and His disciples who were told they would fall are the ones who scattered. If God is striking the shepherd, there is a good cause for it because He wants to test the hearts and minds of disciples, as His ways are much higher than our ways. The devil gets too much credit for leaders falling and that removes leaders from responsibility hence issues always tend to repeat themselves.
So why do the sheep scatter?
Weak in relationship with Christ – People look for an emotional buzz; they move from church to church
Attitude of a follower rather than Disciple – People need to be spoon fed everything
The Shepherd can no longer provide protection – Either the pastor behaves fleshy, or His assignment has changed in your life
It’s time for the Church and its leaders to step up and realise the devil isn’t the root problem, but it is the flesh that is weak. Jesus said to the disciples in the garden of Gethsemane that the spirit is ready (to the disciples), but the flesh is weak indicating that anointing won’t stop leaders from falling, but a lack of authority and the exercising of it, is the real issue here. If you do not use your authority the devil will use your flesh.
There are many circumstances beyond our control, especially when it is demonic but the root and fruits are very different, and that is the key thing to remember. Demonic activity is divine discipline, and if you are being struck then the question is, “what discipline are you encountering?” Let’s humble ourselves and look deep within; it is easy to blame others and the enemy, but it’s high time to look within.
A people of compromise are people that God will scatter.
