Exodus – The power of change

change leadership

Change is the most difficult condition that a human grows through, and that is because it challenges your comfort zones. Yes that’s right we all have comfort zones and the majority of them are formed in the image of the world we live in. Carrying on from my last post which you can find here if you missed it. I realised through my life of failure that I needed a genuine change in my life. Depressive and negative attitudes that became an important part of my life had also drawn me to a positive situation. In short I couldn’t do this life on my own!

Around 2001 around 15-20 people in my family had converted to Christianity and I found this incredibly strange and very uncomfortable, yet I saw the positive impact it had in their lives, but I was cool with what I was doing. You know the life of sin is very comfortable until I found out it really isn’t. My life had spiralled out of control, and it got to the point where I had to leave the country (UK) for my own safety as I rubbed shoulders with the wrong crowd. Between 2000-2002 God had been speaking to me through my family, His Word, and I was ignorant because I didn’t want to deal with change. Everything God spoke in those two years came true, and I couldn’t deny Him anymore.

Just before I had left the UK to flee for safety, I had made a commitment to Christ and had converted to Christianity despite being so against it, but yet I could not deny Jesus was chasing me through His Word. It was only then the Exodus from my life of sin began, and I have experienced that cleansing power of Christ on a day to day basis which has been ongoing until today. So what has changed since 2002?

No more drugs
No more sex (I am single as I write this)
I finished my degree
Global Entrepreneur
Global Ministry (I have overseen around 50 churches in Africa)

This change took hard work, and I couldn’t have done it but for Jesus, His Word, His Presence, His Love and His Passion but ultimately it was me who took that choice to activate those things in my life. I can tell you now that change never ends, but we all need that foundational truth in God which brings stability.

What caused me to change? – His love
What did I need? – Purpose
Where did I find it? – Jesus

Change is healthy, and it has brought me freedom, and that hasn’t altered despite holding key leadership positions in the last 15 years. Abundant life means constant change!

Genesis – How my life began

35 years later and I need to remember how I grew up before I became a Christian without boring you with a long blog post! While I have made a joke out of it in my first sentence, it is important that you get to know a little bit about me, my convictions, what I believe and how I lead. Growing up before I knew Jesus was a life of luxury, comfort and pleasure combined with constant failure and disappointment. Below is a list of things that I had accomplished before 2002 which was the year I committed myself to Christianity:

Low grades through school
Low grades through college
Partying from the age of 14
Alcohol Abuse
Drug Abuse
Repeating university
Extreme laziness

You must be wondering if they genuinely are a list of accomplishments but believe me it takes hard effort to achieve that list! It wasn’t all bad, below is a list of some positive things:

Good family life
Comfortable financially
Worked in different jobs

As you can see there was more trouble than success and as I headed into adulthood things got worse and even though my parents had brought me up believing in gods (Hinduism) they or another force were never able to halt my progression into darkness. While I believed in the supernatural, I had no hope that God existed for me on a personal level. Science seemed right but then I failed that too! Once I had gone to a university which is a given in most Asian families, change erupted within my extended family. A family member visited my home in 20
01 and brought some friends with her. Life was never the same after that! My next post outlines a little bit more about how I changed.

Today I stand tall as an established entrepreneur and leader with the full force of God’s blessing behind me. Life never got easy, but I have someone to do it with now, a King, a Friend, a Saviour…His name is Jesus. Read more in my next post about the power of change in my life!
