How do we find out God’s Will

stocksnap_jiieavjspw

Finding God’s will takes a unique individual effort by having a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus. It is through Jesus and His Kingdom we can find our unique purpose in Him and for His glory and while this seems a simple solution it does take a lot of hard work which can be extremely painful. The reasons it can be painful are:
Self-Will
Lack of knowledge
Wrong influences
Once you deal with the above you are ready to get into a place to hear, receive and start finding out what God’s will for your life is. Always remember that it will be about Him and that doesn’t mean being a worship leader or an usher but an actual lifestyle in God. Below are three keys to finding out what God’s will is:
Worship God
Read His Word
Find out your identity
Many believers think that they should choose their path, and God will bless it, but this goes against everything the scripture teaches us. Proverbs instructs that God will direct our paths if we acknowledge Him. How can we acknowledge God?
Putting Him first in everything
Praising Him through the rough and smooth
Obedience in everything He requires
The Bible says, seek, and you will find, and that’s all God desires from His creation. A generation of seekers!

What is God’s Will

road-nature-lines-country

Many people ask me what God’s will is and they find themselves confused about what God wants for them in their lives. We need to break it down to the basics and go to scripture and apply what Jesus wants us to be. If you want to understand God’s will please read the words of Jesus and below in three points I identify what He desires from us:
Become God’s children
Become Disciples
Become Disciple Makers
It is easy to limit the three points to Church or Christian activities, and that certainly wouldn’t be God’s will for your life because God’s will is centred in His Kingdom. Whatever you are meant to do in your life whether career, student, family or ministry you are called to be His child, disciple and disciple-maker and this should never change. Within this, we have a unique identity which propels us to into having a vision and purpose for our lives which are fruits of the three points mentioned.
The next three points highlight how you can tell if you are in God’s will:
Living in the Supernatural
Living for God and His purpose
Living in obedience to His Word
These points are difficult to execute on a regular basis, but they are the benchmarks for God’s will in your life.

Why do you say “God Bless you” – It’s not Biblical!

trees-358418_1280

God bless you, GBU, and G-D bless you are the frequent texts/messages you will get today, and you will get the verbal version if you are going to a Church or prayer meeting. I have been a Christian for 15 years and was brought up in the faith believing that saying those three words was the ‘right’, ‘holy’, ‘proper’ thing to do. Well, that was until I read my Bible for what it is. I feel defrauded if I am honest because through prayer, seeking God and study I have discovered that saying those three words are traditional or cultural rather than spiritual. God has nothing to do with it.
You probably think I am crazy and fair enough if you do but I spent time on this, and I want to educate those who are willing to ‘hear’ so below I list out my findings in a spiritual order. Firstly I look at God’s Word and how Jesus and the Apostles spoke; Then I look at the spiritual implications of saying those three words; Finally, I will touch on the history of those three words.
What does God’s Word say? Looking at the words of Jesus, especially before His accession to the right hand of God He was more concerned about letting His disciples know about the coming of the HolyGhost; Poor disciples never got a God bless you from Jesus! Apostle Paul was the major contributor to the New Testament, and he always ended his letters very specifically by requesting that the grace of God be with the Churches he wrote to. Very different to saying, God Bless You. Peter and John were focused on ‘Saluting’ the recipients of the letters they wrote, and again, the emphasis was, peace and grace to be upon those who were reading (The Churches they planted). There is also the issue of the term, “GodSpeed” which is found in 2 John but the meaning of the scripture is critical. The explanation is that if there is someone who brings an alternate gospel to the one Jesus preaches then do not wish them a good or safe journey. You can’t find the term God Bless You in the Bible. We say it, day in day out. There are implications.
Every word that proceeds from our mouths are a seed sown, either a seed of life or death and according to Psalm 17:2 God desires our sentences to be formed in His presence. There are spiritual implications to the words we use in a positive and adverse way, therefore, my question is who gave us the authority to proclaim blessing on each other? Why are we speaking with such authority when it isn’t ours to have? It is God who decides where and who the blessing goes after all the scripture says His mercy falls upon whom He chooses. In 15 years of Christian living, I have seen God not bless me, but people insist on saying it to me (I am situation specific) and the conclusion is that the things that I was not blessed with were never in His will or the season expired. I have been guilty of speaking those three words for many years myself, and then I realised that how can I bless someone if God doesn’t even want that? Paul wrote at the end of his letter to the Church at Ephesus, “Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen”. I mean WOW! How many people have you blessed and you don’t even know if they sincerely love Jesus? Many Christians are exactly that according to Paul and Jesus.
You want to know about history I guess? I wouldn’t be too bothered at this point but some say the Romans first came up with it in regards to their pagan gods and others say it’s an English traditional saying that came about during the plague. You would say it if someone sneezes as they were about to die. So next time you want to say the words God Bless you what are you causing to happen in the spiritual realm? You don’t know God’s will for everyone’s life. Neither do I.
Let’s get back to the truth and not this Church tradition which breaks us down and causes us to sin. Jesus help us.

Jesus commands His Disciples

Jesus spoke extensively to the disciples in private because He wanted to instruct them about how they need to live successful lives after His death and resurrection. Jesus knew it was going to be tough for them and for anyone else who took the mantle of being a disciple of Christ on. Therefore He provided His commandments and HolyGhost to help. Jesus’s commands varied but they were very specific as to how disciples need to lead successful lives; below I categorise His commandments and what He wanted us to learn:

What God expects from us – The calling
What we should expect from this life – The vision
What has been given to us by God – The purpose
The dangers of people – Wisdom
The end times – Discernment
The authority we carry – Knowledge

Jesus was very purposeful and wanted us to be equipped with the above as that is how we are meant to live our daily lives but many struggle with the commands of Jesus because He approaches them from a critical angle. Many Christians today despise criticism and promote positivity, but if we look at criticism the right way, we can draw a conclusion that it is for a positive purpose. Jesus is not condemning His disciples by commanding them with instructions but He ls trying to protect us from the hands of the enemy. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy and Jesus knows that better than anyone so He laid down firm foundations for us to grasp and live by.

Living by these commandments can be taxing especially when life gets tough, but that is precisely why He gave us His HolyGhost. The scriptures say that HolyGhost will comfort us by reminding us of the teachings of Jesus, and it is these very commandments written over 2000 years ago that we need to be reminded of every day. How desperate are you for God’s Spirit to be in your life? How desperate are you to be reminded by God’s Spirit about Jesus’s commandments? Today people love the feel good factor of HolyGhost and attend meetings for emotional comfort and months later there is no change in their circumstances.

The greatest counsellor is HolyGhost, and He is ready willing and able to teach you about Jesus and help you be a light to this world and salt to this earth. He is willing to remind you of your authority and the dangers of the people that surround you. If you want to be a genuine disciple of Jesus, then you will love His commandments and will love to be obedient to Him concerning them. If you find yourself struggling with this, then you must recognise you need God’s Spirit in your lives.

This is what Paul means when He said, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The strength to follow His commands, not to go to work, school or if you are having a bad day. I despise those Facebook memes that are thrown about. Of course, Christ wants to strengthen us for life but it is rooted in His commands, and if you aren’t following them then there is no chance you will be fully strengthened for anything else in life.

Love His commands, Love being obedient – Then you are a disciple of Jesus

Disciples know their authority

Knowing authority is a highly important virtue for a genuine disciple of Christ because it will define how successful your walk with God will be. In the book of Matthew, Jesus called the 12 disciples and empowered them to have authority over unclean spirits and diseases, and the disciples then continued the work of Jesus’s ministry. Below I look at the three things that happen to a disciple who knows and understand spiritual authority.
Disciples know the calling of Jesus – Responding to the call of God is the first step of walking and knowing what the authority God is in your life and without response, you cannot receive. Disciples never question God, His Will, His way because all they want to do is please Him through Faith and build the Kingdom. Those who do not know their calling are those who are happy to piggy pack off from other believers hard work. God isn’t in the copy cat business, but the devil is, so take the time to understand what God desires from you as a disciple and take what He has to say seriously. He gives, and He takes away, and your enteral rewards are at stake.
Disciples know what authority means Disciples know their authority – When Jesus gives authority, it is for a purpose. Today so many who receive this unique authority from Jesus underestimate their capability and never use what has been given, and this can have devastating effects on many peoples lives. Authority for a disciple means to operate in the spiritual realm and cause breakthrough on earth. Behind every blessing is a demonic force trying to kill, steal and destroy and the natural believer won’t even notice something being taken. Knowing authority means to take back what the devil has stolen or prevent what the devil is trying to steal. Open your blind eyes, heal the sick and take authority over principalities and powers.
Disciples execute what Jesus gives – Jesus wanted His creation to be doers of the word and not just hearers. Many Christians struggle with hearing God’s Word and this has brought a unique imbalance in God’s kingdom which He predicted. He said that the workers are few but the harvest is great, and the said many are called, but few are chosen. Disciples are busy executing what God has commanded them to do, and that is what sets them apart as leaders compared to the believers who are busy sitting in their pews in the church. There is so much work to be done and the time is to be sent out into the field and the challenge is on you to perform signs, wonders and miracles in your life and the life of those that surround your atmosphere.
Preachers are too busy mocking the apostles and disciples for the mistakes they made, but they choose to ignore the level of authority that was being operated in. You wonder why signs, wonders and miracles are on the decrease?
